I was raised by my grandparents from the age of 9 months until they both were called home when I turned ten years old. From there I went to live with my aunt and uncle until I was sent back to live with my birth mother at thirteen. For the few years we had together, the lessons she taught me, and the memories we shared was enough to last a lifetime. We may not have always gotten it right, but at the end of the day, she was my mom.
On August 9, 2001, she was called home after a brief battle with cancer. People say time heals all wounds, but honestly, though it does heal wounds, it creates a greater longing in your heart. All you want is for your mother to be there for the little moments; having a new child, heartbreaks, pretty much everything. If you're blessed to have your mother still, CHERISH HER. I don't care if she gets on your nerves (what mother doesn't) or if you've gotten into a misunderstanding, do what you have to do to make it right. This Mother's Day weekend, give your mother a call, take her out to eat, or spend the day with her to let her know how much she means to you. Take it from a daughter who wishes she could call her mother tomorrow, Don't lose valuable time unnecessarily. The worst time to admit you were wrong and sorry will be the funeral. Be Blessed Tanaka Caprice
